Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a metric used in performance monitoring and improvement to indicate how efficiently a manufacturing system is performing. Implemented correctly, it can promote openness in information sharing and a no-blame approach in handling system-related issues.
OEE is composed of 3 components: Performance (i.e., speed), Availability (i.e., uptime) and Yield. It can be useful in improving real-time efficiencies, ensuring compliance to budget, evaluating the purchase of new equipment, and comparing one operation to another.
Abidian has had great success in helping manufacturing plants improve their real-time efficiencies. We have done this through kaizen improvement events and the installation of our Microsoft 365 Real-time Performance Monitoring System. Our latest system enhancement under development is to utilize artificial intelligence to generate real-time suggestions to improve OEE and subsequent production performance and output.
